Rolls when put into park

This weekend my '06 Expy 4x4 5.4 started to roll when it was in park. My driveway is at a slant. I drove up the driveway, put in park and it rolled back about 4 feet. Thought that it was slipping on the ice on the driveway so I moved it over and it was fine. The next day, I backed it up the drive, put into park and the same thing happened again. It rolled forward about 4 to 5 feet. Any quesses as to what is wrong with the transmission? Does this mean my trans is about to go? Is there anything that I can do to fix it? Any help would be great. Thanks for your time

It could be something as simple as adjusting the shift linkage. Because maybe with the shift over in Park, the tranny isn't going all the way into Park. I'm sure you've already thought of this, but just in case it didn't occur to you, until you figure this out, make sure to set your parking brake.

How would I determine if it is the shift linkage and how do I adjust it?

Thanks for making sure that I set the parking brake. I told the wife, it's actually her car. Hopefully she listens to me this time.

You might have to replace the parking pawl.

The transmission parking pawl isn't intended to be the only means for holding a parked vehicle, especially on an incline. The parking brake holds the vehicle so the pawl does not have to take the entire weight of the vehicle.

check the safety recall section in this link, you might be able to get ford to replace due to a possible recall. I know it says this is for the Navigator but you might be able to get something done.

Make sure the shifter cable is adjusted correctly.
