Looking for a little help on this engine swap. Will the excursion 5.4L 4x4 transmission bolt u to the lightning engine? Do I need any thing other than the ecm, wiring harness to make this swap? The current 5.4L is very tired and since the truck os lifted 3" with 35" tires she is a real pig. Any help would be very appretiated.
I don't believe the trans in your 5.4L Excursion has the same innards found in the 7.3L diesel 4R100's or the Gen 2 Lightning 4R100's. And if I'm correct, and the innards are different, the Lightning engine will make quick work of the innards of your Excursion transmission.
The only difference between the diesel 4R100 and the Lightning 4R100 is the bell housing mounts. They both share the beefed up (compared to the other 4R100's in other vehicles) internals.
Hopefully Mark Kovalsky will see this thread and add his extensive knowledge to the discussion.

Thanks, Mac
The trans will bolt up.
You can put a performance valve-body in the tranny to help it last longer. But there are guys running the L motor on a 4r70 tranny that have lasted longer then I ever thought they would. 4r70 is a lot weaker then the 4r100.
A lot of it depends on how you drive it too.
You do not need the ECM.
Just get a custom tune for the computer that's in your truck now.
What gears are you running with the 35" tires?

Shut up! Seriously, Phil?
Wow brother, just wow!
My bothers V6 Mustang ate a spring in his 4R75....errr, no, it was a 4R70 because his Mustang wasn't that new...anyway, I had to fix his trans for him when he busted the one-two shift spring.
I'd hate to think about how bad an L would punish that trans, LOL!
You're right tho, a lot of it does come down to the driver. That lift and tire combo aint gonna help the OP tho!

Just trying to get all the parts but need a little help. Here is what I figure I will need:
1-Engine complete lift out w/ trans
2-fuel pump assembly
3-intercooler heat exchanger
4-intercooler overflow tank
If I buy a tuner with lightning tune can I just upload that tune to my current ecm?
You need a custom tune.
If your truck has a 4r100 , you don't need a tranny!
If not and you want to swap in the motor and tranny. Just get the computer from the donor truck and you wont need a tune.
This is a list of parts needed when doing a intake-assembly swap. http://www.madenterprise.com/catalog/scparts.htm
You may not need every part on here. It depends on what all comes with the L motor you get.

You computer will have no problem being custom tuned to run the motor.

Does any one want to sell their stock intercooler heat exchanger or overflow tank? I can always buy the good stuff aftermarket but really do not want to spend $700.00 on these items since the excursion will never see the drag strip!!
And this guy can get you new factory parts for about the best price I know of. His name is Mike. MADENTERPRISE
