I don't think it will even run without some kind of a Lightning tune in it! So you might not be able to cruise.
Best thing to do would be go to that place you mentioned and get them to put a stock Lightning tune on a tuning devise so you can load it in your computer after the swap. Then go back and get it dyno tuned.
here is another question for you guys. The 2001 lightning motor and trans are sitting at the shop ( 62K on the truck before totaled) it looks like all the main plugs are on the passengers side of the lightning? My excursion has the plugs on the drivers side. Phil had said to use my haeness and just buy a tuner so I've bought a sct livewire with base lightning tunes or I could extend the harness and use my lightning ecm? Not sure which is more beneficial? Just covering all my bases!!!
Ran into a issue the torque converter on my excursion is a 4 bolt and the converter on the lightning trans is a 6 bolt? Should I just slap the converter from the lightning trans on my excursion trans? Or go to the trouble of taking the trans to tge shop and get the tail shaft swapped over to the lightning trans?
You don't want to swap the tail-shaft. To do that the trans has to be totally taken apart and put back together. The tail shaft is the first thing to go into the trans and the last thing to come out.
Swap torque converters or buy a new flex plate.
I think there only about 45 bucks.
So after talking to the local ford service guy he said that the excursion trans is definately different from the f250 and f350 and lightning so I'm having the trans inners swapped! 2 day set back.
After removing the erg system and now going to disable the boost bypass system it looks like we only have one more sensor I have no idea what it is but it has a blue o-ring on tge bottom side under the bracket. It is next to the scb solenoid? Any thoughts?
Glad I had the transmissions gone thru. Exc trans had 3 aluminum planetary gears and the lightning had 6 steel! That's what trans guy said? Had to basically extend and rewire the harness to the correct pins on the ECM plugin. Adding relays and fuel pump resistor tomorrow then in goes the motor!!!!
