And, don't get me wrong, I honestly don't care that you do or dont run our stat, but people reading your post need to understand why we made the new style, otherwise they could have just bought one at an auto parts store.

More than 1 guy has lost an engine due to using the IH stat in a 96 up water pump. It doesn't properly divert coolant flow and will cause uneven heat distribution in the block.

Another note: I publicly battled a member on one of the boards for years with him constantly telling all that would listen about loosing several engines due to him running the 203 stat. It was in fact a napa 203. He didn't know there was a difference. So, I hate seeing ANYONE get the wrong stat as when they cause an issue, they will assume all 203s are created equal.

Bob

What I meant by using Napa Stats in Customers truck is using the correct application stat for the truck. Whether is a short stem, long stem or a chevy half ton. I was refering to reliability issue Jim was having with aftermarket thermostats. I converted my truck to the older water pump so I could buy a stat over the counter. I have not coverted any customers trucks. Most of them don't want anything more than a stock truck and they don't have the parts laying around for the conversion(heater hose fitting). You are correct that if I was just throwing the napa 203 stat in every PSD I was working on I would have major problems!

IMO, it's not a matter of it being 203° in particular, I just feel the DS stat works like it's supposed to and the other ones were crap and did not. When the stat fails and opens slightly allowing coolant by, the truck will never heat up.
FWIW I put the IH pump and IH 203° stat in my '96 maybe 8 years ago and it still works perfectly today. Again, probably not the fact it's a 203°, but it's a good quality stat and still does it's job.

I've noticed T-stats are not what they used to be as well.

As for the temp rating, thats the rating that the t-stat is supposed to keep the engine. Not necessarily when it should open.
The t-stat will start opening way before that, otherwise you'd get the old fluctuation thing where the temp gauges keeps pegging both ways cause the t-stat is opening and closing so much.

They are pretty neat.
Play with one in a frying pan and with a lighter or torch.

It's just a liquid medium like wax inside that when it heats it forces the t-stat to open.

I have the 203* thermostat from DS, and also see days with 100+ temps during most of the time here in my country and as MooseMan I´ve had no problems with overheating, the gauge is in the middle betweeen the R and M (NORMAL) so I think you wont have any troubles Major Marvin.

I see 210-215 with my 203 in the Tennessee heat on the highway.

Mine is bad though. It doesn't work so good in the winter.
