Oil Pan Gasket Replacement ?s

I need to replace the oil pan gasket on my 2wd 2000 Excursion with the 6.8L, it is leaking bad on the drivers side rear of the pan. Need to know how high the engine/trans has to be lifted and what parts need to come off to do this. Just from looking underneath the vehicle it does not look like it has to be raised that high, like 2 or 3 inches to get the pan out from the rear, is this correct?

Any other tips or tricks?

The pan must drop far enough to allow clearance of the oil pump pickup tube. This is far more than just 2-3 inches.

Make sure it is not the rear main seal. That is what was leaking on my 99 v-10 made it look like the pan was leaking.

Know its the oil pan for sure, cleaned it and then put talc on it. It is leaking between the crossmember and the rear of the block on the drivers side.
