Power steering pump install/bleeding system

I have a new power steering pump and hoses to install on my 75 F250, 2WD, 460. This is yet another new experience for me and I would like to ask for some basic directions on bleeding the p/s lines.

Is there any thing I need to do before removing the pump and hoses?

Do I need to bench bleed a p/s pump before installing it, like a master cylinder?

Once the pump and hoses are installed, what is the process to bleed the p/s system?

Thanks for the help.
Chris

R and R, fill up the pump once its on you engine and your lines are hooked up, it wont hurt to turn the pulley without the belt on to move some fluid but not needed.
Put the belt on, fire up the engine and cycle the steering wheel full rotation left to right to bleed the air out of the system.
And no you dont need to bench bleed it.

Awesome. Thanks.

So, when I am turning the wheel to bleed the air out...(I cannot believe I am going to ask this)...where does the air come out of the line? Do I leave the filler cap off the pump reservoir or ???

Make sure the area is clean where the lines connect to the box - to keep dirt out of the box. The pump cap is vented but, you could leave it off if you want. I usually leave it on.

purges out thru the pump it's not a "sealed" system, lacking proper wording here, but anyhow leave the cap on the air will work its way out

I like to jack up the front of the truck so the tires are off the ground and turn the wheel back and forth making sure to keep an eye on the pumps oil level it will suck down and run dry depending how much oil left the box and lines keep topping it off until the steering is working nicely test drive it and recheck oil level add if necessary
