nice setup (: sorry to bother but you might be able to help me you see i have an 84 shortbed witha 4.9 and i was wondering if you knew any good 5spds that will fit my truck i was told it has a 4spd for a 3/4 ton truck and it does feel pretty strong and slow paced

From what I know with the newer trucks. if you can source up a ZF-5 (Hard to find trans these days) Trans for a small block ford you will have a transmission that the 4.9L will not kill. But if all you really want is an overdrive to play around with and you aren't loaded to the max all the time a M5OD (More common trans and easy to source up) will in fact work well for you.

How about a 5spd upgrade for a 6.9 IDI? Mine has a 4sp in it. There are lots of 5sp trannies in the pick&pull I visited yesterday. But would any 5sp hold up to the diesel torque, bolt up to the clutch housing, match the input shaft in the clutch disk, etc?

The 5-speeds offered in later years have a built-in bell housing, it's not just plug-n-play.
