Question What the hell is this EGR/Missfire trouble on my 06 F250

I just picked up a F250 Lariat FX4 Turbo Diesel and ran into "check engine" light trouble after about 300 miles. The truck has 130,000ml's but drove like a champ off the lot. The problem started with a bogging like filling and lots of smoking at first take off then seems to open up after a few second on the throttle. A macanic suggested I change out the Fuel Filter's. The problem seam to go away but came back after about 1 hundred miles again. The diagnos reads a misfire and EGR. I think the EGR trouble is coming from a diffrent problem thats causing the trouble. Any suggestions? Why did it clear up after changing the fuel filters then act up again? Sometimes even the "check engine" light will even reset itself while the truck is driving fine, then it will come back in and drive so bad again. Allways when first taking off from a stop. Bogging and Smoking!

You are in the Large Truck forum, maybe try posting in the Super Duty or 6.0 (if that's the motor you have) forum.

Yup, lived those symptoms. Sounds like you need to remove and clean your EGR valve. Top of the engine, one connector, 2 screws. Check tech folder for full details. Good luck! Eric

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm not too sure how to cleane the EGR Valve but im sure I'll figure it out. I'll let you all know if the problem gets solved and will definatly get some codes up ASAP. Any pointers on the EGR cleaning?
