ANY IDEAS ON THIS COLD START NOISE?

Hope you get it figured out. Let us know what you find. Like Krewat said, use a hose to find the noise. Next best thing to a mechanic's stethoscope.

Will "piston slap" eventually crack or break a piston or is it just annoying and will last as long as a regular engine??????

Won't hurt anything-just noisy.

Sounds like a weak chain tensioner to me-that's a bit loud for a lash adjuster.

I have an 01 and it sounds EXACTLY the same on a cold start. It goes away when its warmed up also. I never really sweated it all that much since the oil pressure is fine and it goes away. I am interested in what you find.

I too have a very similar sound with my 01. Has been there since I bought the truck in August. Initially worried that it was bottom end but the truck runs great. Also goes away once the truck warms up.
