Problem with Edge Insight CTS

Problem with Edge Insight CTS
Had trouble right out of the box getting the unit to initialize (read vin). Did several software reloads/upgrades with the help of Edge tech support. Great guys. Very helpful, but no luck. Insight worked sometimes, but not always. Came to the conclusion that I had some kind of connection problem. Unit screen would periodically go blank while driving. Switched out cable with help of Edge tech support. More reliable but still occasionally goes blank while driving. When I touch the blank screen it will activate and more than likely initialize and everything is back to normal. Sometimes when I try to turn it back on it powers up, the gauges appear, but it never dispays data and it goes blank again. I have occasionally tapped the cable connection at the OBDII port prior to touching screen (powering up) and have had success. I really like the unit when it is up and running. Has anybody else had this problem with the Insight CTS?

I have not had exactly your problem. But, mine has been freezing basically on start-up. If I hit the menu button and then go back all goes well and no problem again during the drive.
I called Edge and Support told me that the unit starts up upon voltage drop and shuts down when data stops transmitting.
He implied that something was wrong with my truck if the unit started b-4 I cranked it over. He indicated that only cranking should drop the voltage far enough to start the unit. My edge seems to start b-4 I crank it.
In the morning I key on, but don't crank to allow the glow-plugs to warm up and the injector bzzzz to cycle. I then flip the key back to off, key-on and then crank.
I avoided doing the above a couple times now and it seems like the freezing is gone.
I doubt I've helped, but figured I'd share. I assume you really cranked in the plug at both ends.
Can you borrow someone else's edge and see if you have same issues with your truck/cord?

My CTS has worked great. But we had similar problems with sending units on New Holland swather. We had wiggle the wires every time to start it and get the joystick to function, it was driving us and the techs crazy trying to figure out what was wrong..We applied dielectic grease to the connector terminals and it has worked flawless since. You might give this a try and it won't hurt anything..
