Did you ever find out what the transmission is out of?
I have the same transmission I bought from a bone yard. The best I've come up with is that it is out of a 1966 Ford but that is it. Please email if you figured out what it actually came out of. Thanks,
Craig

So if trans pan has large cutout, it's a C-6.

It's a C6
I know "A" stands for Ford/Galaxie/LTD but are you saying that the A in C6AP stands for that too?
I knew it was a 1966 casting and that the trans is a C6. Also looking in Ford's MPC, all of the C6AP transmissions listed were for 1966 390cid engines, but of course the MPC lists part numbers and not casting numbers so I'm trying to figure out what car(s) the casting RF-C6AP-7006 was used in.
Do you know where I could go to find that out?

Ford uses a 5 digit trans ID code, example: PBE-AA in the car/truck parts books, also the trans ID number like you posted. But the trans you have is from a car, as trucks didn't use a C6 till 1968. So, there is no number C6AP in the truck books. To decode it, you need the 65/72 passenger car book, which I don't have.
Any number you take from parts will be engineering or casting numbers, not actual Ford part numbers. Some can be decoded, some not..it depends on the number.

If it's an all aluminum transmission, no removeable bellhousing, has a small block bell pattern, and a square trans pan with a notch in the right rear corner, yea, it's a small block C-6. The casting number will only tell you what vehicle a part was designed for, not it's actual application, it could have been installed in any other Ford, Merc or Lincoln vehicle using that part.

Bill, don’t know if you seen my post on Christmas Present a friend dropped off to me - it’s a 50’s-60’s Ford, 3 spd standard,, with OD.
governor is on passenger side- can’t tell yet if it’s 6 or 12 V- but casting # on trans body -C1A-7006A2, on tail shaft is R10F-1. W2
the solenoid sits at about 7 o’clock on the shifter side and there is no cover on top of trans.
If you can- thank you for your help!!
