stupid K&N air filter question

my 01 F250 has a K&N filter on it and its filthy. I have the cleaning kit that i used for my sons Mustang....this would be the same kit i would use to clean the one for my 7.3 right?
I mean, they dont make a separate cleaning kit for diesels do they?

I think they only make one cleaning kit for it. Not sure if you have been told but you have to be careful with the K&N dusting your turbo. They tend to let a lot more dirt in then other filters. If you want a good filter try the 6637. That's what I run and absolutely love it.Riffraff Diesel: RDP 6637 Filter Kit

You won't be disappointed. Just my .02 though

Scratch the KNN filter....Great for the car, not for the truck. But to awnser your question, yes that is the same cleaner for the filter. ONLY spray enough on there to make the fiber turn red. It doesnt take much. You over oil it your in for some troubles. Good luck.

Not alot of people know these kinda things. I'm schooling the guys I work with daily. I would take it back if you can. And like said above, order the filter kit from RiffRaff and call it a day. Once I get other issues on the truck fixed, Ill be puttin that filter on. And your question is not a stupid question. Valid and to the point. Thanks for posting!

I would get rid of the K&N. In this application (7.3L Diesel) there are better options. Some have used the K&N successfuly but others have had problems which can lead to a dusted turbo.

no, i didnt just buy the filter....i just bought the truck. And it was already on there.
I just spent over 100 today buying oil and a filter...and i either have to buy a new GPR tomorrow or new GP's to fix the cold start problem.
Can i not run this filter for a little bit til i can get another one? By the looks of it, the guy before me has had it on there a while. Pretty filthy.

It can work, but you need to be meticulous about maintaining it or you'll end up sand blasting the turbo and top end of the engine with the dirt it lets through. This isn't something that will happen right away, but rather over time, so you're ok running it for now, especially since it was on there already. Get yourself a normal drop in filter next time you're at the auto store.

The 6637 filters are great and can easily go 20 or 30k miles between changes depending on how dusty it is where you live. I swap mine out once a year (12-15k per year) and its still pretty clean.

Check your intake tube and see if it is clean or has dust clinging to it. If you want you can also take a look at your compressor wheel to make sure the filter hasn't been dusting the filter.

If you need glow plugs be sure you use Motorcraft ZD-11, and not autolites or others.

By drop in filter, I mean a regular paper air filter that goes in the stock box. As for the 6637, you can get the kit from Clay at Riffraff Diesel. Riffraff Diesel: RDP 6637 Filter Kit This has the filter, pipe, clamp and a pre filter cover. Lots of the guys here run this setup.

EDIT: Man, you guys are fast tonight!
