My OD switch hasn't worked for a while now, and I will go after it tomorrow.
I'll try to remember to take a few pictures, but at my age there are no guarantees.
This mod, or should I say PM advice should be made into a Sticky so it's more widely and easily available to new guys like me.
Thanks to all...FTE is awsome

Wow! This thread was great, it really saved my ***. Quick, easy and made a huge improvement.

Here's where my short was. Awesome.

Also, while I was in there I pulled off some of the wrapping to make sure there was no damage to the other wires. It all looked good.

Since it's not real clear, can we assume that your cable was worn through here:

With nearly everything you will encounter with your truck, it's likely that one of us here has already seen it. So, don't just pop in when you need something, but stick around and get the overall picture of your truck, 'cause there a LOT of these kinds of things here.

If you had seen this a year ago, and thought, "Hey, it's easy to go in to prevent that from happening to me", you wouldn't have had the problem at all!

Just sayin'...

Come around and say "Hi" once-in-a-while!

I've actually been a member since 2006 when I had my '64 f100. I just bought my '02 F250 this past December and had to change my bookmark. I usually don't need to post because I am able to search for the information I need. Thus far I have fixed a common fuel leak due to o-rings, greased my slip joint to get rid of the clunk, cleaned my EPB sensor, flushed my PS system, fixed the 'gap' in my a/c compressor clutch, and now fixed this short. Next up is a 4 gauge pillar with the AIH delete, CCV mod, and eventually the hutch mod.

Also, I'll be contributing with a DIY contraption I made last week to suck the oil out of the top end with basic tools and stuff laying around. This really is a great resource.

Wow! My OD wires are completely cut through, as if with wire cutters. I don't know whether to replace this wire loom, or just fix it. I'm leaning toward the latter.

I think I would solder the wires back together with some fresh heat shrink tubing. I would heat shrink each wire, then double heat shrink the bundle.

Also I covered the metal parts in liquid electrical tape. let dry, then regular electrical tape. Then I covered everything in di-electric grease.

Kinda late to the party but as for that roaring sound it turned out to be my carrier bearing, now my third one to be exact. Not sure if somethings unbalanced or what, or if its the torque of these beast's as to why I'm going thru them but I have no vibrating or anything..

Swimholm, That's what I was thinking...Solder, heat shrink each connection, double heat shrink entire mess. I wish I had more room to stagger the splices. Good idea about the liquid electrical tape and di-electric tape. Thanks. I'll let you know how I do.

Thanks to all of you for giving me the inspiration and the nerve to take this on. You are awesome.
Oh, by the way, my OD now works perfect.

The desire to offset the splices was a big clue!
