Made Me Some Steps!

Well, I didn't want to spend (nor could I afford to) $300 to $400 on a set of these so I decided to try to make some! I used 2-point-something-inch galvanized and 1" black iron pipe for the tubes and 3-point-something-inch C-channel and some metal straps to make the brackets... the cool thing about it is that it didn't cost me a thing! I'll try to get some better pictures later... I had a ton of progress pictures, but I lost my camera so I'm outta luck there. Anyways, let me know what you think!

Looks good! I assume they mount to the frame? Existing holes or did you have to drill? I've been wanting to make a set as well out of some 4" I've got laying around but haven't looked yet to see if there's holes on the frame available. Also are they just painted or powder coated?

It's just cheap bed liner in a can... it's worthless. I'm gonna find me some grip tape somewhere and just put up with this until I get the truck painted.

Sure thing... I've got a few pictures and I'll take some more. I lost the pictures of my jig I made for welding the rungs to the main tubes as well as the finished tubes, but I've got pictures of my jig for the rungs and finishing those off. I'll take some of the brackets as well and then draw up some diagrams with dimensions.

As for mounting... I mounted them using the same holes the stock steps used. I even reused the nuts that the stock steps had. They're on the inside edge of the bottom of the cab. Surprisingly, they're VERY stout!

Thanks for the compliments, guys... I appreciate it!

WOW, nice steps!

I just paid $330 for the aftermarket version of those steps. Made my a company called "Go Rhino".

They wanted $479 for them at every truck acessory shop in Portland, Or and i thought i was so cool because i only spent $330 on mine with free shipping.

And you just whipped those together. COOL.

I wish i could weld and had access to materiel like that.

Nice work!
