Talking 7.3 idi intake..... custom.... pictures!

i fabed up a custom intake for my factory turbo idi, i used a 3.5" bend cut as a slash cut then a 1.5" piece of straight 3.5" welded onto it to go into the turbo, i set it to the right angle and cut a 90 degree piece of four inch to fit it so that it would line up with where the radiator overflow and washer fluid res sit, welded those up. i moved the rad overflow over to the other side, it fit nicely between my battery and heater fan right in front of my starter solenoid, i bolted the washer fluid reservoir to my hood hinge on the drivers side on the back side of the fuse/relay box, ran a piece of straight 4" from my 4" bend and onto a napa 6637 filter. welded a 1" piece of stainless onto the intake for my oil hose. works awesome, added a brace bolted to the filter head brace to make sure the intake is always clear of the injector lines.... if anyone is interested in pictures parts or instructions, let me know.

a few more pics in my album... check it out! Click the image to open in full size.

i build boost quicker, helps in the lower end, i can tell a difference going up hills around town, i dont lose boost as fast during shifts. i havent run a big enough load to tell a difference in egt's im sure they will improve though.

Not bad, I considered doing something like that but I wanted to do 4" all the way and the bend there was too sharp for that. I just flipped my filter mount and ran it to the passenger side fender.

Are the batteries in the way for good air flow?

ghunt... what coupler did you use for that at the turbo inlet? is it 2.75"-4" or a 3"-4"?

Sorta...lot easier to get a filter wrench on but some of the other stuff around it can get in the way.

Also the battery wouldn't affect airflow...it brings in air all around the filter.

I used a 3-4 because 2.75-4 is almost impossible to find. Why they used a 2.75 inlet on the turbo I will never know...

Anyway, the way I got around it was to wrap some 16 gauge aluminum around the inlet of the turbo and silicone it on to give it a little more diameter. Another option is do the same thing with some rubber or something like that- just something that will keep the coupler from fitting so loose.

thats what i figured... i have a a bunch of those rubber/silicone adaptors that are from the inside of air filters that i'll pry through on there like you said.

thanks man!
