Dana 60 Swap! Have questions, Please help!

Ok guys I found a guy that has a 88 F350 Diesel Dump truck that he parting out. He has a Dana 60 in it and was think I could get all my parts to do a Swap. Now what do I need? I know there was a part that was discontinuted. What is that part?

Are the F250 or F350 springs better. I do haul but not a lot, It a dd.
I also plan on doing a rsk to it at some times. I want it to sit higher but not to high and like the look of it. So I think he has the rear F350 blocks.

Any info would be helpful guys.

Thanks.

I want to say panhard bar, not sure so dont count on me for the right answer on the discontinued part, LOL!

As for it being a DD rig, use the F350 springs. The F250 HD springs are pretty stout riding ones.

If i were you then I would unbolt everthing from the frame and take springs, steering linkage, front driveshaft, and the sway bar brackets that bolts to the frame.
I am pretty sure the discontinuted part is the chunk of steel that goes between the driver side spring and the top of the d60 axle. it is a cast steel piece that molds to the pumpkin of the d60 so you have a flate spot for the spring to ride.
I didn't need the 350 driveshaft because my 250 one worked but some say the 250 driveshaft is to long to use with d60.
The thing with the springs is that the 350 springs will ride better than 250 springs but I didn't notice a difference between the ride with my d50 Vs my d60
Also the panhard bar would be pretty easy to make if you couldn't get it and if you have a lift you will need a longer one anyways.

the 250 shaft is shorter because the 350 has the double u-joint thing at the rear of the front drive shaft, and if its there, you might as well take it, but you will also need the yoke off the t-case, comes off easy, just need a big socket, the yokes seem very hard to come across, and the drive shafts cost a decent few bucks if you decide you want one later.

The discontinued part is the spring u-bolt connecting plate. Pull the axle with the suspension and you'll be fine. Also my front driveline with the RSK fit perfect, no problems so I wouldnt worry. Are the gears in the 60 different cuz, like me, you could pull the set and have matching gears and the 350 blocks which will put the truck almost level. I now fit 35's with that set up

So you used the F250 driveshaft with the RSK? If so, no vibrations or other problems?

Thanks.

I used the stock F250 driveshaft and haven't had any issues on my truck. The biggest concern is having enough movement in the slip joint in the driveshaft not an issue of driveline angle. With my setup I still have about 3/4" of compression before it bottoms out.

jchosler, He thinks the truck was 4:10 and that what I have. I'm going to pull the cover plate and check it out and figure out the ratio. I know how too. I want my truck to sit that high. A real mans truck.

I have no issues what so ever with the 250 driveshaft , your good to go

There should be a badge on the diff cover bolts that tell you the ratio, My 60 and sterling both have it.

Ya I get nothing but compliments on that truck, ladies love it to sucka ha ha

hey the only prob i had was when i did my zf swap, the auto drive ahaft is longer than the man, and i had to notch my crossmender, since i didnt use 350 drive shaft with constinvolicty joint, i do have some viberation but my shaft has a big @ss dent in it, but works for now but plan on haveing a shaft shorten and done right

So I when and Picked up the Dana 60 day. I was a little suprised when I got there to get it. He had cut the front of the frame and threw rear of the springs. I was so pissed after he told me the guy he was going to buy them never showed. I wanted them. So I get the Complete (hub to hub) Dana 60, frame rails, steering box, steering links, sway bars, cut leaf springs, 2 F350 tires. Also got the rear blocks.

I'll post Pictures tomorrow but it in my truck bed.

Now My only after though (as I'm half way home) or problem. It came out of a F450 not a F350. The $50 Clearly had a Dana 80 in it. I was told it had a 4:10 gear ratio. Now Did they make a Dana 80 in 4:10? I know they made it in 4:56.

Anyone have a link to the Rsk kit?
Thanks for the help guys.
