Factory Oil Filter

Any one ever met the Popeye SOB that cranks on the factory filters? That dood has to have arms as big as tree trunks! I collapsed my factory filter taking it off! I've had 7 new modular motor Ford's since 96 and I aint never ran across a filter that tight! I did not let it beat me though!

I saw the dude. He's actually a little nerd with a tube of Loctite red.

But seriously, I've never had that happen to me. Glad you got it off.

I guess you didn't have a 04-up F150 before this because it has been common compaint about the factory filter since 04 at least. Got my 04 and 09 filter off the same way with a filter wrench, sure both were on tight but not that big of deal to get off.

Unfortunately, this is a very common issue. Some don't experience it and others including myself walk away entirely pissed off about a simple oil filter change.

I'm thinking with my next new Ford truck, I am going to ask them to change the filter as part of the delivery process. Now, if I can only remember to do that....

I was lucky with mine, came off with no problem....only complaint I have is the placement of the filter.

I guess I got the lucky draw on this one! I don't remember any issue with my 06 F150, 05 GT or 10 GT. Today I;m going to the Bud Shootout with scratches all over my arms from an oil change!

My old '05 filter was so tight, I reached down from the top of the fan shroud and through the clutch fan to get enough leverage to remove the filter. Almost cut my arm on the fan blades.

That's why I always have the dealer perform the first change. I let them deal with the little nerd that's built like a WWE wrestler and has nothing better to do all day but twist oil filters on too tight.

I first encountered the tight factory filter when my friend and I did the first oil change in his new 83 Mustang convertable. We finally got the thing off by hammering a long screw driver through the filter and torquing it off that way. I had the same issue with my 85 Mustang GT. Used the same screw driver. Twelve years later, same issue with my new 97 F350. Same long screw driver. Fast forward to 2010 and I had them same screw driver ready for my F150's first oil change. This time I had a grooved end cap type filter wrench and a breaker bar and was able to turn the filter off with hardly any effort at all. You'd think after all that time Ford would eventually turn back the torque setting on the filter machine, because people have been dealing with this for a long time.
