shifting into and out of 4wd
this my sound stupid but all the 4wd trucks I have had you just needed to turn a ****. this one is a 91 f 150 and it has a floor shifter with auto locking hubs. now do I have to be in netural to shift into high. sounds like I can go from 2wd right into 4wd. but to go back into 2wd I would have to back up 10 feet or so. now a friend told me he had to back up to get it into 4wd.. sounds like my owners manual says to back up to get out of 4wd....any help ....thanks

Iirc you have to make one full rotation when when you put it into 4x4 . Also you can put it into 4x4 well driving just don't go so fast and take your foot off the throttle when you shift. Then to disengage you have to take it out of 4x4 and back up 10 feet to disengage.
Don't quote me on this because like many of the other people with 4x4 I have manual hubs . Which are better then the autos because then you are locked in for sure. Earlier this winter I was in the ditch and I wouldn't of been able to get it into 4x4 as it happened so fast and no revolution of the front axle would of had me stuck. Luckily I was able to use the manual hubs and get out.
