How do you decode date code on 390 motor?
I have a 1960's 390 motor in my 1975 High Boy, I was told the numbers underneath the oil filter adaptor can tell date of manufacture of the engine block, is this true? I far as I can tell my numbers are--8CZ9-- does this make sense to anyone? Can you tell me how to decode it? Thanks for your help!!...........390man

8CZ9 is most likely 8C29.
the 8 would indicate 1968
the C would be March - A is Jan, B is Feb, and so on - skip the I though...
The 29 would be the 29th day of the month,
So, casting date is March 29, 1968
