Ok guys here we go i just picked up a 1984 f250 4x4 rolling chassis has rear tank, rear end, front end ,junk front bumper and decent rear bumper leaf spring front end. I'm going to clean and paint frame and rear ends. I want to put new brake lines all new bushings in suspension and cab.Have 2 go back 2 junk yard and get the trans, transferecase, and the 2 driveshafts then find an extended cab or 4 door cab. Then paint and build a custom bed any ways im thinking about a 4 inch susp lift what do u guys think.
Is this a standard cab frame? If so, what is your plan to mount a extended cab or a 4 door crew cab onto a standard cab frame?
Regular cab frame but i can trim body lift bushings and build rear brakets or whatever i have to do.I want to basicly have big cab with easy manuverabillity.
I know I've seen it talked about (adding crew cabs onto standard frames) but don't recall all
the issues, hopefully somebody else will chime in. Franklin will maybe have more to say
tomorrow.
You would essentially have to build new cab mounts and probably a lift of some sort to get it to bolt on. Its do able but anything is with enough time and money.
He only needs to fab up a rear x-member for the rear body mounts and they mount the same as a standard cab. So really, the body mounts aren't a big deal. If anyone is having a hard time visualizing the end result, check out b-uno post #14 and hav24wheel post #95 (his truck is in the first link as well and it shows up more within the thread... and g.d. do i love his truck) rigs. If you decide to do this build, PLEASE post pics of it.
I have never done it before, but the big problem I have read when other people do it is the frame kick-up the frame has behind the cab. They usually have to put a custom body lift under the larger body, to lift it up high enough to clear the frame kick-up.
Yea I had already thought about the kick up.Was already goin to do a 3" body lift and cut the back body bushings.I figured 3"body lift and a 4"suspension lift on that 84 f250 4x4.
Hmmm are you going to do a flatbed then? I have always kinda wondered if you could run an extended cab with a short bed on a single cab 8ft bed frame or not.
Well i think i may try to custom build a really short bed. Then if that doesn't work out yea ill go with a flat bed. But now i've got another problem.I was goin to put a 302 a guy had built. Then he wanted to keep it and sell me a 429 built. Now he wants to sell me the 302 again but now i had a good friend give me a 460 out of 89 f350 nocking. Now i dont know what to do?
Well what motor is currently in your truck? Unless you want to do conversions on transmissions and motor mounts you might use that to decide whether to go small block or go big block.
