Don't forget to consider that what was a tank behnd a gas engine is not always a tank behing a diesel engine.
Good luck with your project in any case!

The above post has a good point - the torque rating for that T-19 might not be high enough for the 7.3. I think with no OD, you be looking at top speed between 65 and 75MPH, and WOT occurs at 3300rpm. Your swap can be accomplished, but to get any benefit out of it, you need to dump the 4 speed, and go with at least a 5speed. If the rpm's figure out to 2500 @ 60mph, the milage will be about 11-12. You need to do some number crunching with tire diameter and ratio's and rpm's. A good spot to run on the highway is about 1500rpm. My truck always got about 17-18mpg - 3.55 gears and the e4OD (.76 OD) and 235-85 r16 tires.

besides price, whats wrong with a zf6?
you get a 5.2:1 first and a 0.7 over drive.
with that low of a granny first, you can run 3.73 - 410 rear gears and still have plenty of grunt to get going. then you are running down the highway at 12-1400 rpms or so which is ideal
if you really want grunt, get some 4.56 or 4.88 gears, and put it in 4 - LO.
there wont be anything that will stand in your way and you can still drive on the highway

I believe the 6.9/7.3 have an SAE 2 bolt pattern without the adapter. That's why in a commercial vehicle they can use different transmissions.
The ZF6 can be used but it's not a direct fit. The input shaft is larger. Different clutch is used. From what I've read it has to be machined to fit, not sure, just what I've read. In a 4x4 you need the transfer case with the ZF6 or a divorced transfer case. Speedometer is run off the rear axle on the years with the ZF6 and no provision on the trans or transfer case for a speedometer.

Serving suggestion: Find a home for or horse trade your 4R100 for a diesel specific trans.

I'd go with a Ranger 2spd OD. Just as long as Bessie isn't reduced to "Farm Tractor Status..."
Auxiliary Transmission's which are are fun to **** with...if I can't afford a OD I have a line on some International
"Lowhole 5 spd Direct Main Trans & with a "Brown-Lipe" 5063 (3spd. auxiliary transmission, plus the
IH 2pc bellhousing...I would need a "Divorced Transfer" to keep my van 1 ton 4X4. I really want to turn
Bessie into a "CabOver".

This is for a '90, which is a different animal than yours. Some info transfers:

I can't find the thread I was thinking of. I'll search again, or feel free to scroll through this forum, or the van forum.
This one discusses briefly one of the biggest problems you will have--the clutch pedal. These were not offered with a MT, and the earlier van floors were flat. One guy (not in this thread) just cut his wheel well out.

The ford 289 302 351 bell housing is not the same as the 6.9 and 7.3 bell housing. Your only bolt in options are zf5 , zf6, c6, e4od, and aod. But they have to be the diesel versions that originally came with the ford diesels. Not only for bell housing, but for gearing as well. I am currently swapping in a 7.3 into my 1960 F600. Its a dang good motor.
