T5 Mech/Hyd Clutch Mod 1950 F1

Good morning,

I'm getting ready for seats, steering column and pedals on my 1950 Ford F1. A few years ago I picked up a wrecked 1988 Mustang that had a 1800 mile crate engine and a T5 in it. I am using that combo in my restoration.

It should be noted that I bought one of the last of the Gibbons front ends about 7 years ago. I'm using the 11 inch disc brakes. With a 98 disc braked Explorer 3.25 rear end.

I've decided on an under-the-truck master with pedals. I'm not going power brakes. The 88 Mustang T5 in a mechanical clutch. All the under the floor pedal set ups are for hydraulic clutch. Anyone out there have any ideas?

No definite ideas, but I can tell you what you have to work with. My 86 150 has a hydraulic clutch behind the 5.0

I'd look into the possibility of brackets that would work with your bell housing.

The hydraulic clutch pushes on the paddle, where the stang mechanical cable pulls the paddle to move the to bearing. The pivot point is your biggest issue - opposite sides of the bell.

I am going to be looking at my clutch setup this spring as well...so I will be paying particular attention to this thread. I am currently using the early 80's Mustang SROD bell with a modified clutch cable setup. It is not the cleanest setup in the world. I want to clean it up and make it more effective.

I've seen those setups for the T5 that mount on those holes. The thing is, those bosses are there for machining the cases at Tremec, and really aren't that stout. There are others that mount off the bolts that hold the trans to the bell. Just saying...

If you find something , I would like to see it. I wasn't aware of these not being strong enough, most guys that use the T5 seem to be using this setup but many are using the hydraulic throw out bearing and not the throw out arm. so I guess time will tell!

It came out of the Nissian as well, they use the T5 with this hydraulic setup.

I have heard many people using the hydraulic throw out bearing...it sucks. It sucked in the trucks.

I tried to mock up a Z-bar setup in the '49, but the angles were quite difficult and I don't think I would have had the room. I think I will pull my pedals this weekend and see about modifying my current setup to allow for a certain degree of adjustment while taking out the weak links. I will be sure to keep the board up to date with this.

Don't know if it will work but check out the cable kits they offer for early Mustangs. You may be able to adapt it. Good Luck.

I already have a cable setup that works, now I just need to make it better.
