351W C6 4x4 Swap to 460 E4OD 2WD?
Hey guys. Just bought a 91 f350 Super Cab with a 351 Windsor EFI and a C6 with 4x4 and a Dana 60 Kingpin front axle. My question is: would it be possible to drop Clyde's 460 EFI and E4OD into it? Clyde is 2WD and that's my concern. Does the E4OD need to be a 4WD tranny for the swap or will mine suffice? Also, is this swap even possible (honestly, please. I am an average joe working solo with limited resources/budget and decent know-how.) An engine/trans swap would be at the far limits of my ability but I think I really could do it. What do you guys think? What would be involved? I'm looking to swap the engines and transmissions into both so I can sell Clyde and the 351W with the C6 to break even on the cost of the new truck. Thoughts?

I am in the process of swapping out the 300 Six in my F150 for a 460 and I was just thinking last night how stressful this would be if this was my DD and I was doing this over a weekend and trying to get it ready to go to work on Monday morning. Get yourself a "backup car" if you don't have one already. I have a shop with a lift and all the tools and it's still a big job. Not saying you can't do it, of course you can, the resource you will need most IMO is time.
TIP: Watch out for the oil filter on the 460 - mine hit the crossmember and that's when I noticed the crossmember on my truck and the F250 donor truck are different to accomodate the oil filter. Ford put a 45 degree adaptor on the motor and then STILL had to mod the crossmember to get it to fit - this looks like some poor engineering IMO. I had to order a 90 degree oil filter adaptor from JEGS to get it to fit.
You will also have to swap the motor mount perches and cutting the 4 rivets off the left-side perch is NO FUN.

For the swap to be easiest, you would need two transmissions. A C6 from a 351w 2wd (to go with the 351 from the F350 back into Clyde), and a E4OD 4x4 transmission. Since you already have a E4OD small bell transmission, you have two options to go with: 1) A small bellhousing E4OD, and take the two and swap parts to build what you need (a big bell E4OD to fit the 460) or a good big bell E4OD (a good used will run $400-800, or a basic rebuilt one will run $1000 and up). Keep in mind that the F350 also will need the ecm from either Clyde and stand alone trans controller or a ECM and harness from a E4OD 460 4x4 truck to shift properly. You will also need to deal with exhaust, motor mounts (L&L makes swap mounts), etc. The swap is definitely doable, but as suggested above, I would not try it on a DD, as its going to take some time, especially if you are doing it yourself.
