Talking 1960ish? F850? Super Duty ID problems

Long time reader, first time poster.

In advance, thanks for your help.

I have what is titled as a 1958 F800 tandem axle dump truck but is actually a super duty from the 60's? The vin is: F86KUE73703 and the additional markings are 176" wheelbase, rangoon red J, F862 (gas and F850?), body of D081, trans N (spicer 5652), axle EBG, 32000 lb gvw, 222 hp @ 3200 rpm, and a district sales office of 281303.

So, I understand it was manufactured in Louisville but I don't know much more. Additionally, anyone aware of the c & c curb weight on this?

I bought it to restore but now need money to put up a shed. So, I'd like to have my facts straight when I list it for sale.

1958 was the first year "super duty" I believe. Any photos?

Pic

I only have one pic right now...it's upload into my album. I'll try to get a few more.

And I don't believe they were actually called Super Duty until 1961...even though the engines produced prior to that were considered super duty. That's why I question the year?

The red truck in your album has a 61-66 style cab & front clip. It's a cool looking truck.

A 58-60 would look like this:

Definitely not 50's

Yep, that pic confirms an incorrect title. Now I just need to find out the exact year.

Have you tried to locate the Vin# on the frame?

Frame VIN

not yet...thought i'd check the cab vin info out before i started to crawl around in the snow. i have documentation of the engine serial number which i believe reflects a 1963 manufacture date but i don't know the relevance of that quite yet.

63 would match the body style.

Hopefully someone that can decode your VIN # will let you know what it breaks down to.

My question would be, has the cab been replaced and no one bothered to change the door tag?

The doors are the same: 1961/66 F100/1100 (except 1961/63 Uni's), 1967/69 F800/1000's.

Uni's have a straight thru embossed line, while the other trucks embossed line is a dogleg...otherwise the doors are the same.

It could be the same old story: People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they didn't install the original Warranty Plate on the replaced door.

Is it possible somewhere along the line a DMV person screwed up the title? If the title matches the cab Vin# I'd say the DMV screwed it up sometime. If the title and cab Vin#'s match I'd hunt down the frame Vin # and make sure it matches. Then take the info into the DMV and have them correct the title. You'd probably need to have the truck Vin#'s inspected though.

Thumbs up Props to the number guru

thanks numberdummy ...i enlisted the parts purveyor at my local ford dealership a year or two ago....he said he could ascertain the info you provided...but he never did.

fordman, it could be the dmv screwed it up but i'll pay hell to get it fixed. i guess for now i'll leave it alone. i feel a bit more educated on the truck...now if only some could provide a curb weight for this heavy dude.
thanks for all of the input

I've got a 66 f850 that weighs in at 18000 lbs. Its got atleast an extra 6 or 7K with the service body and winch that it hauls around.

So, Id guess that your truck, if it was set up like mine would weigh near 10-12K.

Double frame, 18K front axle, 38K rear rockwell tandems.. hendrickson spring suspension. Seems like that was a pretty popular setup on the old super duty trucks..

If it comes down to it, and you're near washington state, Ill buy the brownie transmission.

May buy the whole truck depending on price.. what are you asking for it, and more important, where is it located?
