catch a gear and keep it going up hills is what i do with it. if i didnt tow so much, i would not have a need for a diesel.

i dont know if that is the true weight of your truck. mine on scales weighted 7600lbs yesterday (without my toolboxes). the engine only weights 1000lbs roughly. (i have rhino lining, 35'' tires, ball hitch, and others that add to my weight).

my boss drives a identical V-10 to my truck, same year, package, everything as mine. when we haul equipment thru the mountains, i dont slow down, he does. and all the while i am usually towing the heavier trailer and buy less gallons between fillups.

with that said, the only advantage of a diesel is purely for towing and longivity. i agree, they do weight more and cost more.
