4R70W is leaking tranny fluid
1995 F-150 4x4. It's leaking trans fluid at the bottom of the trasmission extension housing where the extension mates to the tranny. My question being...is there just a gasket between the two, or is there some kind of seal in there?
I thought it was coming from the back of the trans pan, so I put a new filter and gasket in. I got 4qts in and it started to drip back out again. Someone told me there shouldn't be fluid in the extension, but I didn't think that after just 4qts with no load on that it would drip out like it did unless it was a gasket problem. But, I am no expert on this. So if anyone has an answer for my question, I would be greatful. I just want to know what I'm looking for before I go pulling the transfer case off and find bigger problems. Thanks in advance.

You should be able to fix this without alot of trouble, there is a gasket between the two and I have seem them leak, make sure the bolts are not loose. There will be fluid in this area, and make sure you watch for the parking paw, spring and pin. Its easier to get this back together if the trans is not in park.
Also look for cracks in the housing, I have seen that too.
