The Sylvania Ultra's will be much better than the stock replacement bulbs. You can get them at Autozone - easy to replace.

bulbs and such

Thanks, I just picked up a set. Good recommendation.
When I get all the fluids changed from diffs, training, coolent, oil, etc, etc. Do you have any recommendations on what fluids I should ask for? Also will get fuel filter, and anything else you could think of would be great.
I appreciate your replies!

DOT-3 or -4 brake fluid.

Mobil-1 ATF in transfer case and power steering pump (if you're not in Kalifornia and can get it!).

Full-synthetic 75W-140 gear oil in the differentials. In the rear it's a MUST! Optional for front differential is 75W-90.

I'm a 03 owner here with the 8' bed.......you'll have a 38 gallon tank. I would also get rid of that K&N filter. Call Clay at Riffraff and get his 6637 air filter kit and some other goodie while your ordering?

Dot 4 brake fluid is for disc brakes, Dot 3 is for drum so use Dot 4 only.
Get rid of that K&N they don't stop all the particulates, especially the really small ones that get through the filter media and then the turbo spinning at 100,000 rpm get's abraded away by those fine particles.

filter

I have the K&N drop in filter now, should I remove and put a standard paper filter in for now until I get the Ford AIS?
Thanks for the reply

Get a 6637 filter instead.

going different

Thanks for the advice but I have leaned over the years (now a old wise man) that when you screw around too much you have problems. I think I will go with the Ford AIS where you have colder intake as compared to keeping it under the hood where there is warmer air.
As far as oil I believe I will go with the Rotella T 5W-40W during the colder months here in Eastern Washington. Oh, and a Wix oil filter.

Colder air only matters for the Gassers. The 7.3L has a intercooler, which warms or cools the charge air to the temp of the engine coolant. So, regardless of how warm or cold the air is, the air temp going into the engine is at engine temp.

Not be a smart ***, but if you've learned over the years, why use a WIX oil filter when the Motorcraft is just a good or better, and cheaper?

Cold air is denser, on any motor colder air will yield higher peak HP.

The 7.3 uses a air-to-air intercooler, the unit will get the intake air as close to ambient as possible.

A cold air intake means the air entering the intercooler is already cooler, thus by the time it travels through the intercooler, it is cooler yet.

I think the Wix and Motorcraft are comparable in my opinion. As far as air intake it is also my opinion there was a reason for Ford to have air intake from outside, just my opinion.
I appreciate the replies and suggestions as I will seriously take into account.

Welcome back anjcohen. First order of business is dump the K&N. The 6637 or the AIS will work fine. I personally like the stock fit & quietness of the AIS but to each his own.

thanks

Yes, I will go with the Ford AIS. I am going to get all fluids changed (except for power steering and brake fluids). Also it was recommended by reputable independent shop here to get the front bearings packed at a cost of $250.00

I am looking into synthetic oil 5W-40W but on my old 99' 7.3 never had a problem with the delo. Opinion?

Just curious, but why are you dead set on the AIS and only the AIS?
