POP-ups WTF

any idea why in the hell I am getting excessive pop up ads from this website?

Showing up as default.com and WebFile.com without address bars to identify actual website.

I am blocking them now, but with a premium membership to this site, I shouldn't be getting pop ups... I would rather see ads on my regular browsing page than pop-ups...

sounds to me like the pop-ups aren't coming from this site, but rather you've been hit with a virus. same thing happened to me a while back, only it kept disguising itself as security software. the only way to get rid of it was to use a malicious software remove tool, but the virus woudn't let me open that program, kept shutting system down when I tried. I finally had to hook up the hard drive as a slave on another computer, and root out the problem from there. sucks dude.

Yeah, for a few hours I was getting the constantpopup blocker beeping noise. Nearly as annoying as water splashing on the backside while taking a dump......
Never any popups, but the constant sound from the blocker.

Premium membership or not, seems there was some malicious code got into the database...

It started yesterday. I don't generally surf the net with the pop-blocker on, but it's on now.

It's a known problem, not only here but also in Europe

Been reading about this since last night and it began affecting me this morning.

I run Firefox on Ubuntu Linux, no W32.virus.bs is going to affect me.

The site admins are totally aware of this and are working on it, the problem right now
appears to be errant javascript code from one of the advertisers.

Disable javascript in your browser and see if that helps you; you can turn it back on once
this is over.

I don't see any of them using Firefox 3.6 and Win7 starter or XP SP2.

Maybe that's due to add-on's I have, I don't know.

I'm running Adblock Plus on FireFox 3.6.13, FTE is NOT in my exception list, but I'm still getting the pop-ups. What gives?

*Update. I added default.com and webfile.com to my blocking list, with wildcards for the whole domain, and it seems to of stopped.

I tried that and couldn't get it to work for me, what are your exact rules?

If you're using Adblock Plus in FireFox, use Ctrl-Shift-V while on any page that generates a popup. That will open a "debug" window at the bottom of the currently displayed page. There you will see all the blockable items and their current status. Right-click on an item and select "block this item". Choose the rule that best suits your need. I used the most inclusive for both default.com and ads149.com and restarted my browser. That seemed to of done the job for me.

Let me know if this helps, ok?

Didn't work for me.

My rules are:
http colon // landing dot hitfarm dot com/*
http colon // pop dot webfile dot com/*

The *images* are being blocked (notice all the images are in red, indicated the rule
effectively prevented their loading) but the pages themselves still show up.

Show me what your rules are, would ya?

I'm using Firefox 3.6 and to get the pop-ups to stop I had to go into Tools/Options/Content and remove a pop-up blocker exception for FTE to get the pop up ad's to stop. This same menu can be found in Linux by going to Edit/Preferences/Content and finding the same thing.

Alright, I adjusted my rules, they now look something like:

@@||hitfarm.com^
same for the other site

and they seem to be working.

Thanks for finding this, Kevin! I'd rep ya if I could....
