EGR tube

EGR tube
I have a Ford F250 5.8L V8. I heard a noise coming from the exhaust and it was under the hood, so I popped the hood and looked at the manifold. Well to my surprise there was no more EGR valve tube! I looked at how it was in there and at some pictures of the engine. I was just wondering has anyone had to change the tube, and if so how hard is it to do??? Thanks

I changed out the EGR tube on my '92 F350 w/5.8L engine without removing the upper intake. The EGR tube attaches to the EGR valve mounted on the side of the upper intake and the lower part attaches to the passenger side exhaust manifold.. Granted it is a little tight, but removing the upper intake is not going to help IMHO. You still have to attach one end of the tube or the other after the upper is reassembled.
For reference here is a photo of an EGR valve with EGR tube attached
Depending on the model year/emission equipment that tube will cost anywhere from $25-150 USD.

Those rot out a lot. I've seen about 5 post in the past week about bad EGR tubes haha. They aren't too hard to replace, the hardest part is removing the upper manifold. You MUST remove it in order to change the tube. Once you remove the upper intake (which isn't very hard) you'll see where the EGR tube screws in at and you just remove it and replace it with a new one. Just mark all your hoses go and electrical connectors. And when removing the upper intake, the middle bolt on the right side (passenger side) is a star bit instead of normal hex head. I just took a star bit for a drill and put it in a 1/4 inch socket with a long extension. Overall, it's not too bad.

Thanks,
I have the 5.8 and I know right where it is it is just so rusted on and there is no room to work. I just cant get it off. Do I need the EGR valve to be attached to pass emmissions? Does anyone think I could use flexable metal pipe and attatch it to the manifold and the EGR vavle and woulod it work?
