What are you actually supposed to do with that little shelf?

 

It is like the paranasal sinuses or the appendix, no one knows why it is there

 

Are you talking about that area on the drivers side under the left 12v plug (near where your right knee would be)?

If so, that's the passenger air bag key control for the reg and extended cabs (mine has a module there). The crew cabs just get an area to throw change in so it can rattle around and drive you crazy.

 

actually its just level on the bottom of it, so nothing will actually stay in there!!!!!!! they didn't put a lip or anything on it.

 

Ah, I thought it was slanted down in the back. That is useless.

 

I cut one of those sticky cell phone pads to fit in that tray. Good spot for a pack of gum, extra clip, bottle opener

 

Its like the 40-20-40 mini console in my new Dually pretty useless

 

I haven't even noticed this cubby hole and I've had the truck for 4 months!

 

That is one of the reasons I opted for the full console on this truck. My 06 had the 40/20/40 seats and the console was very useful. When I saw the 2011 had half the space of my 06, I had to really think about how badly I needed seating for 6. I determined that in 4 years I had only had 6 people in my truck a handful of times so it was full console fo rme. Ford needs to re-evaluate the room in that console.

 

I really wanted the full console but with 4 kids, my wife wouldn't allow me to leave one at home on every road trip. I suggested a second dog crate in the bed, but that didn't fly either.

 

I got the xl work truck and the dealer didn't have one, so they located one at another dealer and it had the 40/20/40 seats cloth. No one at the dealer knew what they looked like, they were out of brochures.I will either make one or wait and get one from the junkyard when they become available.I like the seats but can't see why ford put such a chintzy console and called it an upgrade

 

The 40/20/40 config looks better than the 40/min-console/40 solution in the XL series IMO but that is based solely on Ford's build site pictures.
I haven't actually seen that mini-console in person.

 

You can get better consoles at wally world than the ford mini-console.I think the rest of the truck is great. I do wish ford had an upgraded console.

I took delivery of a 2011 with the jump seat after trading in a 2008 KR that had the canvernous console and 2 cup holders... I loved that console and hate the jumpseat. Why not see if a 2010 console will fit in your 2011?
