Rear bumper step pad plug???

ok, I have been searching all over the net, calling dealers, searching ebay and I can not find a replacement plug for the hole in the rear step pad where you can put a spare hitch ball.

The dealer is telling me I have to buy the whole step pad assembly to get that plug, it's not available by its self. This seems ridiculous to me, I have to think this is a commonly lost item.

So does anyone know where to source one, or maybe have one for sale?

I am at the yards all the time and have yet to see 1 Superduty there. They just don't make it that far, people around here run them until there is nothing left then scrap whats left.

There's lots in the yards over here, I get little parts all the time. Hope you can find what you need. Even if you do have to purchase the whole step cover, it shouldn't be that much. I had to get one of the bumper top covers and it was like $35 is all.

I swear, LMC has just about everything. I need to order new rubber flooring for my '79 from them.

I was going to get the more expensive one, the 1/8" black polyvinyl flooring. I did a rubber mat from JC Whitney and it lasted about 2-3 years and is all cracked now. The OEM mat was dark blue, which I would prefer, but black will do.

Thats it! I called them up and shipping is more than the part, $6.95 for the plug and $7.75 to ship it, so I'm going to hold off until I either have some more to order or find a used one somewhere.

Thanks!

Here is the Ford basic part number so you can check your dealer tomorrow if you would like.

You will have to tell them Black or Arizona Beige (King Ranch)

so there is an individual part number for it! I figured the parts guy didn't know what he was talking about. I'll give them a call tomorrow and update this thread.

Thanks!

well, brought them that number and surprise surprise it popped right up! Cost me $5.11 with tax, picking it up tomorrow. It was a different parts guy so I didn't get to say 'I told you so', but maybe he'll be there tomorrow when I pick it up.

Thanks to everyone who helped, this site saved the day again!
