4r100 factory fill plug

Drop my pan on my motor home 99 and was no plug in the pan from the factory. Would not think at 22,000 miles someone would have the pan of and taken the plug out. What do you guys think could someone have been in my tranny for a service. Or do they not use the plug for dipstick in the 4r100.

Good question. Interesting, to say the least.

However, your '99 is 12-13 years old. I would hope that someone would have done the tranny fluid change before now.

Of course, I haven't done mine yet, with 36K miles on it.

I do not like the fact that I have an answer to this question. But with the fact that I have swapped out my tranny three times in this last year and changed torque to heavy duty(no not at the same time). Yes they make a pan with no plug and they make a pan with plug to the side instead of down the center. One pan had no magnet! Go figure. A local guy here in cali, is a designer for ford, he would only say, "When there is no plug you need to drop pan to change the oil. Be thankful, you know you are getting all the dirty out." Not very helpful.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about a plastic plug that is in the dipstick hole when the tranny is manufactured.

At the factory for final vehicle assembly, they just push the dipstick tube into the hole, which pushes the plastic plug into the pan.

Usually, when you open a tranny that has never had the pan down, you find the plastic plug laying in the bottom.

The original poster did not find that plug in the pan, and is asking if there is any reason it would NOT be in there if no one has ever taken the pan down.

Krewat yes I am talking about the plastic plug that falls in the pan. I dont know if the fluid has been changed but it has now with MC mercon V and new filter and flushed a few qt. I have no idea why ford would not keep the drain plug in both the converter and pan. Guess to make it harder on us to change. I was lucky and had both drain plugs. thanks guys

The new torque I just put in does not have a drain plug. Guess the next change will be filter and pan oil and then a pump out at the shop. My Dodge had a pump out and probably never did see the pan off and it was an 04 that I owned since new. It probably has the plug still in the pan.

The 4R100 does not use the push in dipstick plug. It was shipped from the transmission plant with a short tube in the dipstick hole with a rubber plug over the top. When the dipstick wass attached the operator removed the cover and installed the dipstick.

Thanks for the help I did see the short tube as that is where I took the tube apart to pull the tranny for a rear main seal replacement. That tranny is heavy with the E brake.
