Hey folks, this is my first post here so I hope you can help me out. I recently took over the maintenance dept of a development that owns a 2004 Ford F-550 Super Duty Dumptruck. It has the V8 powerstroke turbo diesel I beleive it is the 6.0L. When the truck is loaded and going up a hill it misses and back fires thru the air intake. They have told me they have taken it back to the dealer with no luck, and have had other diesel mechanics work on it but its not fixed and that it has done this for a while. Any ideas or suggestions would be a big help. Also the truck runs very rough in the morning when you start it. It blows all kinds of smoke and rattles and rumbles when you first start it up.

 

if its an 04 then its a 6.0. Icp, Ficm, Egr valve could all be the causes of the rough running in the morning. When your climbing the hill do you let off the gas while the truck is under heavy boost?

 

No I have my foot into it, Its an automatic transmission, and I keep the peddle steady about half peddle and it start back firing. If I leave off the peddle it stops. I notice when it is back firing it blows a puff of black smoke out the exhaust.

 

My uncle has the same truck and when his started to run rough in the morning like you described, he brought it to ford and had 3 injectors replaced so you might want to have those checked
