Popping through intake

I was cursing along at about 45mph and out of no where I start hearing the engine makeing a very loud popping noise that was coming back through the intake, so i quickly pulled off and cut the engine. I have heard this noise before when i was replaceing my injector orings and didnt have a rocker arm tighten all the way. Also about two days ago I came out of the gym and noticed my fuel cap was off...... and I'm pretty sure I did not leave it that way. So all ive had time to do is take my fuel filter off and drain the fuel bowl. Of course theres deffinity something in there, fuel filter is coated in a brown greasy film and on the bottom of the fuel bowl there is more of the substance, covering the whole bottom atleats cm or two thick (brown on top and then silver on the bottom). The acual fuel had a blueish tint to it. Anyone know what this could be? And does it make sense that the substance could gum up a vavle and cause the popping back throught the intake?

you got sugared. Man I'd kick someones teeth in for that. It probably did bend a pushrod. Might have really screwed up some nozzles too but hopefully your filter caught most of it. Someone did that to my first mustang, a little 200 straight 6. It bent several pushrods for some reason when it happened. Not sure why that happens.

Dang, Ranch, you're on the ball today, I was about to say the same thing, minus the mustang, mine was a 96 F-150 with the 300 ci I6. Nirvana, you just got sugared my man, sorry to hear it. I think it's a good time to point out that locking gas caps are pretty inexpensive.

Wow... I don't know why the hell someone would dump sugar in the tank.. That's EFF'd up!!! The popping is most likely the bent pushrods though, Hope not too much else is messed up..

living in a state where you can carry a 45 on your hip works tons better than a locking gas cap!

You'd be wise to drop the tank and get that cleaned out sooner rather than later. The longer you leave that stuff in there, the harder it will be to get out.

thanks for confirming what I thought, I guess.........
sad thing is ill never know who did it unless someone is stupid enough to let it slip.

Now should I be worried about my fuel pumps? lines? And the link to dropping tanks?

Dropping the tanks is no big deal. Blow out the lines, if one tank was sugared then both probably are. Question, who makes locking caps for our trucks? Hello Bill, hope you have been good!

Take the trans dipstick and drop it down the tank.
Spin it a few times. Pull it out and check it. The
end of the fill tube has a screen on it. (aka sock)
If someone dumped a solid down the filltube you will see
it on the stick. If you have allready fueled up dont do the test.
It would be a waste of time as you would flush what ever it could have been
in the fill tube.

I doubt its sugar. But you never know.

Oh yes, I agree, being from and living all my life in Texas. However, being in a border town, most of the populace is too cowardly to confront you directly if they've got a beef with you so they mess with your property instead. Of course, being 6'1" @ 220lbs with a 34" waist probably doesn't help. But I digress, Here you go, Glenn
