EGR Delete questions

I've been reading alot lately on egr deletes for my truck and I'm not quite sure what to go with. The kit I've been looking at is Sinister 6.0 Basic Solution kit. It has the egr delete, new oil cooler and all new gaskets. I'm just wondering if this is a good kit.Basic Solution for Ford 6.0L Powerstroke With Sinister EGR Delete Kit, Oil Cooler and Intake Gaskets
I also think I'll have to get a tuner for the truck due to the code im assuming it will throw being a 2005, I was going to go with an SCT tuner but not sure from where. Any input would be great, I plan on doing an exhaust at a later date but I'm just trying to cover the basics so I wont have anymore problems with the truck. Thanks guys

Does your state do visual emissions checks?

No I live in Vermont and there are no emissions. I was also wondering is it worth doing the oil cooler while apart if it isnt bad??? Cause if not it would save me time and money if I didnt need to do it. Thanks

I did my cooler when it was apart even though I didn't need to. Just a good way to hedge your bets.

Well thats what I figured to but I wasnt sure if it was worth the extra $350 to do it now i know it will save me in the long run if it does go bad. How much more does it take to do the oil cooler while doing the egr delete???

It will probably add an hour to the entire job to replace the oil cooler, less if you don't clean anything up. Try TruckCustomizers.com for the SCT SF3. Good price.

Not sure if this will be an effective way to test if your going to get a code but...

My EGR cooler has failed and tons of white smoke. I disconnected the EGR valve while it was still in the truck. No CEL and No more white smoke. I did this to help me narrow down whether or not i was going to have to replace head gaskets as well. No more white smoke with the valve disconnected...

Might i also suggest that you flush your cooling system before you replace your oil cooler.

We dont have emissons check down here in FL either but to be on the safe side when I did my EGR I just welded a plug on the in-let to the EGR and put it back together. Coolant still goes through but not exhaust gas so no pressures so no leak. Now if you look at the truck for a visual inspection its all good. I also did my oil cooler do to being plugged and temps were WAY out of wack when I stalled my edge insight and saw exactly what was going on. 35deg difference. Now i have 2-3deg unloaded and 5-9 pulling heavy at 113K mi. I am also running an SCT on a mild tune and have been for about 80k and never looked back. Good luck!

Well i mean I believe it comes with all the replacement gaskets and all parts to replace it. The kit for everything is just over $600 i didnt figure that was to bad. So flushing the coolant is a good idea???

Reference to the EGR delete kit, will this increase hp to the truck? If so could you run into blowing a gasket with increase hp? I was talking with someone and they brought that up, but I didn't find anything on the forum about it. Thanks

You can get the oil cooler kit from here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...Q5fAccessories and the EGR delete kit referenced and you can save some serious $$$ from what MKM customs wants.

IF it increases HP it wouldn't be enough for you or the motor to notice. If anything it would help PREVENT blowing a gasket.
