Dieselsite tranny filter

I'll be getting my Excursion next week so I'm putting together a list of things I want do. Is an external tranny filter a good idea or is it just something extra that no one really uses? Extra filtration can't be bad, but I don't have $$ growing on trees here so I don't want to put it on the list if there really isn't a need.

Here is the link to it.

So, I'm guessing I really don't need to worry about this?

If it helps, I've been thinking about their coolant filter and the trans fluid filter. They can keep my by-pass oil filter company...

I'm not up on the 6.0 power-train, but I'm pretty sure they come equipped from the factory with an external transmission filter. Follow the transmission lines up to the cooler, you should find it there. The service interval should be in the owners manual.

From their website "We have the only full flow system on the market with a built in bypass valve" Really bugs me when companies make such broad statements in an attempt to sell overpriced product.Besides that filter mount they show is nothing special its a baldwin mount made in india and is a generic mount and you can get them from most supply houses but with a 1-12 thread the filters are very pricey and not worth it.

At work all we use are these filter mounts Trans-Dapt Performance Products 1028 - Trans-Dapt Performance Remote Oil Filter Brackets - Overview - SummitRacing.com and a standard 1515 style ford filter 3/4x16 "It also has a magical bypass valve inside WOW". We use the same filter setups on all the fleet trucks for Transmission, Secondary fuel and Transmission filters. The only thing you would have to supply is the hose which can be made at any hydraulic hose shop for about 35.00 for the sections. So total parts you would be into the whole setup for about $50.00 with filter , base and lines.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. I don't mind paying a couple extra $$ for a pre-assembled kit, but that is a little steep.

I did a little research. That isn't just a standard mount, it has a 25PSI bypass built into the mount and allows you to mount the pressure gauge if you want one. The mount is an OB1318 and the filter is a BT839. From adiesel.com you can get the base for $48.63 and filter for $6.64 + shipping. I'm not sure on the hose, the nice stainless stuff was $40-50 for 6ft on a quick search. Add in all the fittings which are never cheap by the time you've got everything covered and I could see it easily costing $150+.

Now, it can be done cheaper with cheaper hose, mount and such. But not really fair to call this kit a ripoff, you get what you pay for.
