87-91 butterface years
If you don't know what a butterface is, its when you look at a woman and she's got a smoken hot body but an ugly face. Everything is good "BUT-HER-FACE". Well that's how I feel about the 87-91 years. I don't think I'm alone in my opinion because you always see people using the 92-97 front on the 87-91 trucks but you never see vice-versa. I have an 89 and while I like the 92-97 fronts better, I'm not wanting to spend $$ buying the parts to change it over. So that got me thinking about what could be done to improve the 87-91 front end to make it look smoother. The things I was thinking about doing was getting the Australian headlights. IMO the stock headlights are too big for the front end and the aussie lights make them appear smaller along with clear corners. I also want to get a billet grille. The other thing I see wrong with these years is the front bumper. It's not ugly, but something about it isn't right. I've been trying to think of what other vehicle's bumper might look better or maybe a hybrid of it and the stock one used together. Anyway I got bored and got a pic of a truck on Australian Ebay and tried modifying it to look a little like what I'm talking about. Comments Good/Bad/Whatever.

The headlights are not what bothers me about mine but rather the "chin" aspect to the bumper, how it bends down and out in the middle. The curve looks funky to me. The "forehead" bit of the hood also bugs me, but mine has a bug deflector on it and does a decent job of covering it up.
Maybe it's just the grill guard that makes mine look better than my girlfriend's.
I think a billet grill looks nice if you have a surrounding trim piece. The grills where you can still see the ends of each bar just look unfinished.

This is interesting, because I personally don't care for the 92-96 front end...something about it, it just looks weaker. I like the 87-91 "bricknose." Yes these headlights are huge, I had a pair sitting in my room for a couple days, and everyday I looked at them I was reminded of how giant they are. I think people prefer the newer front end because theres much more of an aftermarket for it.
I think the australian headlights are cool, but only cuz they're different. I like the sealed beam headlights over the halogens anyway.

I sort of agree. I dont think the 87-91 looks bad, but it doesnt have any personality. I prefer 80-86 front end.
Its not just flat, from the side it actually angles in, big grill, sunken lights and markers on the fenders. I think if you can get ride of the big flat look you would be alright. That might require making a grill that pushes out in the middle a bit.

I can agree with this. The 87-91 is my favorite all-time Ford truck, I've owned 3 of them (have 2 right now). The "face" doesn't look bad to me, but I do prefer the 92-96, but only for the front-end. I like the 87-91 interior, bodyside moldings, and lettering much, much more on the 87-91. I also like the red strip on the tailgate bezel better than the black on the 92-96, and the red inserts in the center caps.

I agree 87-91 they are all horrible all those who can't stand them can deposit unwanted trucks in my driveway so I have more parts to pick thru. I might be the only one with this opinion but the bricknose F-series seamed to have the brightest headlights of all the years. Back in the day when these came out halogen sealed beams were all the rage but you could still buy the old style if you didn't want to lay out a couple extra bucks for halogens.
