I was wanting to go with a cummins. I have found a few trucks. The main one I am looking at is a 96 dodge 2500 STD cab 2wd long bed. I was a heavy equipment mechanic in the military. So I know my way around diesels and fabricating. I just never took on a task like this. I want to keep the body stock looking but with a nice cummins under the hood and updated suspension.

That cab looks to be in excellent condition. Let me know what you plan to do with the chassis after you remove the cab.

I have started to strip your old one down for spare parts. i hate the idea of some of those things like the brake drums and transmissions going to scrap. Even if I don't need them, there are sure to be others that do.

LOL, my hill is not as steep as yours. Besides, the frame is chained to a tree in the woods with what's left of the drivetrain still tarped. I did remove the radiator and had to use the starter on our '46 Merc.
After I finish the truck bed, I will have more time available, that's when I would like to pull it back up to the barn and remove the engine & transmission. The motor isn't stuck, but it won't turn a complete revolution so I think it may have a valve hung up. Not a big demand for those big 6's so not sure what I'll do with it. After that I want to pull the wheels and check out the drums and brake components to see if they are usable, since there is no new source for the drums and I don't think for the shoes either. I'm not sure that the front axle and the rearend are worth saving, but I know that the frame is not.

I just got a frame for my truck. Its a 1979 snub nose motorhome. Its a GM 1 ton frame and it has a SB Chevy and turbo 400 trans. I got it for a great price. My dad is a service manager for a Chevrolet dealership. So i knew he would force me to use a chevy as much as I hate to. I am the only one in the family with Fords so. If anybody is looking to buy the original frame and drive-train. Just give me a shout. It has the 254 Flathead 6 and i think its a 2 speed rear-end.I would hate for it to go to waste if somebody needs it. well now to go take the cab off and start building.
