Ok, I know my early 90's 302 had the tamper proof one, so that knowledge plus some grease made me assume this one was tamper proof as well. it's not. Just a regular Torx #40. But I will need to pick up something like above, I have a small set of Torx and a set of them that fit on a 3/8" ratchet, but the Torx bit itself is too fat to fit in there, but no that I know I can get that tool.

I can't stand that these Fords have metric bolts on them at all, we're not in Europe man, so stop using metric bolts and get rid of those stinkin' roundabouts while you're at it! (turn soapbox switch off).

Sorry DrJoe about Oregon and their emissions stuff. I've been in good old MT & WY for quite a while now, i've never owned a pickup that was legal (emissions or otherwise) and I don't plan to soon, but we don't get messed with up here so we don't have to worry about it.

How about the U.S. gets with the entire rest of the world (and a better thread profile) and starts using metric?
I mean, Congress authorized its use back in the 1800's.

We are in the fine company of only two other forward thinking countries on this earth. (Burma and Liberia)

Speak for yourself metric stinks SAE all the way you ever go and buy a set of gearwrenches that have the 5/8" not included nope! but the metric set jumps from 15mm to 17mm I mean what the hell. and don't even get me started on machines with half of one and half of the other. Oh and by the way has anyone ever used the 9mm in the Craftsman set ever I've got like 10 of them never used not once.

No one uses 16mm other than hacks that can't be bothered to use a proper 5/8" wrench.
It is not an ISO, or a JIS head size....

I'm all for making everything metric. It doesn't get any simpler for conversions.

and wouldn't it be nice if the bolts on the truck plenums were the same as the ones on the Mustangs. The center bolts can be accessed right on top.

You will need to use a 1/4 drive ratchet and two extensions to reach it. I used a T40 bit taped inside a socket.

No emissions controls here, just in Portland.
I knew a guy who forgot about that bolt, he figured it was just stuck by the gasket....So he proceeded to hit the upper intake with a huge, dead blow mallet until it broke free/off........Yes, he paid for a NEW intake from Ford....expensive lesson.

Whoa, hitting things with a large hammer (a.k.a. the "Chevy Method") probably wouldn't have been my first choice, lol. He didn't try to claim he ran through a humongus hail storm with the hood off or something?

Show me a country that uses metric and i'll show you a country i'll never live in. I'm getting really tired of the sales pitch "they've been doing it in Europe for years" it's getting old and if anything it's a deterrent to my buying their product.

Once in a while I still run into one on Motorcycles and Machinery.

I really don't think that bolt is a torx for any other reason than a hex head bolt would not fit in there without a larger access hole.

It's not tamper proof when you can get a t40 1/4in socket at the auto parts store for a couple bucks!!!!!

I dunno, but everyone seems to replace it with a hex pretty easily, either way they could have made it work quite easily, easier than making it a Torx one would think...

Try ordering one. When I last tried a month ago I was told they were discontinued.

Now that this has turned into a metric bashing thread I'm not sure it matters though. I don't hate metric. For socket/ wrench sizing I kind of like it actually, what I hate is when companies use metric and SAE in the same immediate area.

Mine was stripped out... took me 2.5 hours with a die grinder to grind that head off without damaging plenum and then once off if I made some extra room in the plenum, so now it has a hex head(SAE) actually so far most bolts on this 90 F150 are SAE and I love it.

As far as the 9mm bolt goes yes volkswagon uses them. There is one that has uses a 9mm socket on the bolts holding the flywheel on.
