In a short block, the only difference is the pistons

It has hypereutetic pistons and an old marine grind flat tappet cam in it... no roller cams in the G1 Lightning.

I personally wouldn't use the factory cam if it comes with the short block. The F4TE blocks (found in mid 93 and later 5.8L) make it easy and inexpensive to convert to a roller cam using roller hardware and lifters from a 5.0/5.8 roller cam equipped motor.
