to seafoam or not to seafoam?
That is the question.... have heard and read a lot about what it does and the benefits.... but i have always went by , if its not broke don't fix it... my truck has a rebuilt 400 with approx. 50,000 miles on it , seems to run fine .... but could it run better ? have also read the possibilities of loosening up crud that may have been holding stuff in check?... so looking for info on what to do? thanks in advance....joe

I haven't used it on my truck but I used it on all my jeeps muiltipule times. If you put a 1/3 to a half a can into a vac line while the motor is running I will clean your valves and intake and will give you a better throttle response if the carbon build up is real bad. YOu can also SLOWLY pour a 1/3 of a can into the carb it self just slow engough not to kill the motor. This way is easier and cleans better than the vac line method. After all is said and done cut the truck off let it sit for 5 mins and crank her and watch the white smoke roll. This smoke is it burnning off all the carbon on the valves and intake.
This method is listed on the can. I have done this on lots of jeeps and cars but not on my truck yet because it aint running.
I would not put it in the crankcase for the reason that if there is any carbon/slug built up blocking a leak it will clear it. It will clean the the motor real nice but it will also over clean it and cause leaks that were blocked by slug or carbon. But if you do put it in(1/2 can) run it a few mins then change your oil and filter.
All of the above is my results from using seaform this way. If I were you I would go ahead and pick up a can.

It can't hurt, the cleaner the combustion chamber the better imho. I feed my car half a can of seafoam every oil change through the vacuum line, shut the motor off for 30mins to let the carbon crystalize, then fire her up and rev to about 2500-3000rpms until most of the smoke is clear. I hit my truck about twice a year since I dont drive it as much.

Seafoam is a chemical that started out being used commonly for marine applications as it fought the effects of an engine sitting for long periods of time.

You would be correct on that. Run a can thought a brand new car with about 50 mile on it and you don't see even smoke. We tested this on another forum, cuz of a great debate about it.

I've hooked up the bottle to manifold vacuum and let it trickle in at about 1500 rpm before finally dumping the a cup full into the carb and killing the engine to let it soak. During the process, lots of white smoke and it took a bit of crankin to get it started again but she ran like a champ.

Seafoam has worked great in my older vehicles. Here's a link on how to!
