Never know tell you take stuff apart.

Yeah I have those parts coming from Rock but theyve been lost in Ohio for about 7 days or so. Apparently if they are here by Wednesday I have to call them and let Rock know.

I'll try and take a pic to tell you what I mean, but its raining outside so I had to come back in. On a side note I am damn glad i bought that thin profile 1/4 ratchet from Snap on. I had to take ac compressor mounts off and initially on the first dizzy the vac. advance but got to it reasonable easy.

"reverse the dizzy"??
Did you put it in 180* out?

It doesn't matter where you take it out as long as you put it back in the same way.

There is a rubber type piece inside the vac advance that I assume is to close shut from vaccum, that doesn't happen. I can blow air through it, and suck air through the hose fitting. I can close it if I press on the piece that goes into the dizzy though.

See thats the weird thing. I took out the previous dizzy and then tried to install this one exactly like that one came out with rotor position everything the same. It just cranks, and then appears to blow out the carb, so I think the power and exhaust cycles are reversed. Its just a bitch because I have to undo the ac mount, vac advance hose, the cap clips, the lower cap clips. I had enough for today and figure that I'll jack with it tomorrow. Good news first every dizzy is changed! That thing was shot by the way.

No man, it sounds more like you are one tooth off. I forgot which way you need to move it if it spits out the carb, but NOT 180 off. Don't forget to advance and retard the dist as you try the tooth your on, just to make sure...

Yeah I'll get it figured out this weekend I figure. I went ahead and took the carb apart for some fun, not all the way but some of the bigger culprits. It needs a rebuild and has a blown powervalve. At least I know now. How do you guys swap out your wires? I got an aftermarket set I think auto line, and matched them up to my stock motorcraft wires and they were all different lengths but close enough, is there a better was to do this so I don't have so much stretch or too much length on my wires? I'm trying to get this thing back to stock so I can see what the hell is going on here. It sucks with buying a truck, even if it is only one owner because you have no idea what in the world they did to it.

I just checked the old distributor off my 72 351 Cleveland mustang cobrajet automatic motor. The casting number is 12131-B and is a motorcraft single points distributor. The standard trans motors came with a dual point distributor. I would say it is the original that came with the car when it was new. Needs new bushings.
