Atf amsoil, royal p or M1?

I am rebuilding an e4od for my 4x4 conversion project i bought red eagle clutches kolene steels and high end seals and gaskets. A transgo tugger shift kit. I want to know what type of trans fluid i should get for it i want to go synthetic but should i put that in from the beginning or run a cheap oil for the first 500 miles for break in or what should i do? I also want to put an external filter, but should i go sub micron bypass or full flow 20-30 micron?

Go with a full flow filter IMO.

And, I wouldn't' put a cheap oil in for break in unless it suggested you use a specific type/brand with certian additives blah blah.

Royal purple makes some great products.
You should consider using one of Schaeffers ATF's as well.

Being the life blood of your truck, I'd start out with a good oil and keep using that oil so your not mixing.

I'm not to happy with RP ATF. I had been using mobil 1 in my power steering, transfer case and transmission and it was fine. I got a deal on RP atf and used it at the last change and now the gears are noisier and the synchros are acting up more. I know they are trashed and not because of the RP but it did shift better with mobil 1.

x2 on wht Tayln said, go with Schaeffers! If BTS will warrant a e40d against all breakdowns and he puts in Schaeffers that's the one for me.

i looked up the prices on that stuff and it seems like a great-comfortable price for my budget. i wonder if i could get it cheaper by 5 gallon container? brians tranny shop would be the one to call right? i have a filter setup with a cat 149-4533 hydraulic filter on it and a built in bypass valve that i can adjust to whatever pressure i want. i cant seem to find specifications on the filter micron rating for that filter or if i can get a filter the same size maybe with a smaller micron rating.. i know this filter is plenty big enough with 1" inlet and outlets so flow will not be a problem. i get free 1r-0750 fuel filter caterpillar that has a 2 micron rating all day long but the threads wont quite fit that filter head, its off just enough! i might take it to the machine shop and see if my buddy that works there can make the threads on that filter head fit those filters for me. then i will adjust the bypass to about 10 psi or so and letter rip! i sure dont want any loss in flow going to my tranny cooler and a filter with a bypass is better than no filter at all right! im going to put trans temp guage as well when i do this! im gettin excited, all my parts are going to be here next week. i had a chat with my friend today that built a tranny using the same parts im using and everything. he has it behind a twin turbo 450 hp cummins in a 13,000 pound 4x4 welding rig truck and he said he used orilleys tranny fluid the 2 dollar a quart stuff and he has had no problems with his tranny what so ever. im not going to say i am going to use that fluid, but thats just what he told me...

all that i can tell is that the hyd filter is between 11 and 27 microns as its an "advanced filtration" cat filter

Just go to Schaeffer's web site and look up distributors in your area.
