1989 F250 C6 Transmission woes
hey there,
So I fired up the ol' beast to plow the snow last week and behold my tranny is slipping like crazy.
I have looked through many results of different thread search attempts and found a few things to check (i.e vacuum, adjusting the band from the outside, etc)
However, I'm leaning to a rebuild. Why? The beast ran fine last fall and I decided to change the tranny fluid and filter. Yikes. I guess the 'crap' in the old fluid was helping the tranny limp along and create some friction/grip. Now, new fluid isn't so good for it in my humble opinion. (Note: I did not notice an abundance of metal debris in the pan when I changed the fluid/filter).
Anyway, do any of you have a good source for rebuild kits? I have done a few searches but haven't seen anything that matches what I need for the 89' F250 C-6 auto three speed.
The project won't start until after this snow season ends but I'm getting ready by researching and prepping. This will be my first tranny rebuild but I'm sure with a DVD, a good book, and a good rebuild kit, I can tackle it.
Thanks in advance!

I have a 87 F250 with 6.9 diesel and C6 transmission. A few years ago it lost 2nd gear. So I took off the pan and valve body to find the band was loose and the wedges fell out. I put it back to together and adjusted it and it worked fine until now. It lost 2nd again so I got back in it to find the band is worn out and out of adjustment. So, I need to replace the band and I understand I need to remove the transmission to do so. Is the band for the diesel C6 transmission different than a standard C6 band? Should I get the Kevlar band I see advertised? Other than a front and rear seal and the band, what other parts may I need to need to do this job?
