Bell Housing 351M to 351W

Does anyone know where I can get a 351W bellhousing to fit my NP435 4 speed in my 77 F150 4X4? I am contemplating dumping the 351M for a 390 HP 351W and I want to keep the 4 speed. Also, any problems finding motor mounts for the Windsor to fit in the 77? Thanks for any help.

Any clue?

I think I will need a bell that fits a Windsor series engine mated to the NP435. Anybody know for sure?

A 351W uses the same bellhousing as any 302, 289. Motor mounts too. I replaced a 302 with a 351W in a 79 2wd and everything bolted in place just fine. The only problem i had was finding the power-steering brackets for the Windsor. On a 4wd there may be some header clearance issues, I'm not sure. Hope this helps.

Where are you located? There are a lot of places where you can buy a new one, but a used one from a junk yard/another member on here will be tons cheaper.

Why are you wanting to keep the 4 speed, if you swapping motors, originality isn't there so I think it'd be easier to find a 5 speed that'll mate right up to the 351. That'd be a far easier and better search. Prolly cheaper, too.

Keep the 4 speed, there's no 5 speed option in these trucks, and swapping to a newer 5 speed requires converting to hydraulic clutch. And he's looking for a bellhousing, not an entire tranny.

Not true.......you can put a ZF 5 in them, I'm in the process of planning a ZF swap right now. I'll be keeping the 351M for the present and have researched and found that a ZF 5 from behind a 460 will work and bolt up to my NP205 transfer case with a little modification. I'd think that a ZF5 from behind a 351W would be the same scenario. There are some threads in this forum relating to such a swap. Of course its not just a bolt in operation since you will need to swap over to a hydraulic clutch, re cut the holes in the floor boards, and move the crossmember back. You will also have to have the front driveshaft lengthend and shorten the rear. I realize he is just looking for a bell housing which shouldnt be all that difficult to find. Just wanted to make sure folks know that a 5 speed is an option if you want to invest the time and money to do so. I will be positing a thread with pics and info on doing this swap when I get a transmission located and start getting into it.

Keeping the 4 speed

So, it looks like I need to find a Windsor bellhousing for a four speed, correct?

Does a three speed Ford Tranny have the same pattern as a four speed? There are 1,000's of old Mustang V8's situated with three speeds and they all have a bellhousing on the back of their Windsor V8 289, 302.

I believe that they are the same, just make sure you get the clutch fork, they may be the same too, but better safe than sorry. I'm not sure if the clutch would be the same or not, and you will probably have to get a standard flywheel for the Windsor. But there again, they may be the same as the 351M. If you really need to know, I've got a 351M out back, so I could measure the flywheel if needed.

Maybe a Cleveland Instead

I guess I could always get a 351 Cleveland. That will bolt right up to what I have and it will be somewhat close to stock (No Clevelands in 77 F150's right?).
Lots of parts and upgrades for Clevelands.

I have one. The truck has the 435 behind the 302. I am going to put a 351m in in place of it. Where are you located?

Not factory option, but yes it fits. I started collecting the tranny and parts for the swap 8 years ago. Maybe eventually I'll have enough time to actually make the swap.

I wouldn't trade my 4-speed for a 5-speed. The 4 speed is tougher and with a 3.50 ratio and 33" tires I don't feel the need for OD at all. Plus I don't care for hydraulic clutches.
