Using 10W 40 VS 15W 40 in winter.

Hey all,
I did a search but didn't find much.
My Question is can you use 10W 40 in the winter to help with cold starts?
Right now it is getting into the single digits here and the oil doesn't want to flow to the injectors. I usually lug my block heater in and it will start really well but I forgot to plug it in last night and I couldn't get the truck to start this morning. It was 5 degrees out. PlusI think the GPR went out cause I tried to cycle the Glow plugs a second time and the Wait to Start light wouldn't come on. Does that sound like a bad gpr? The Wait to start light came on when I first tried to start it and it sputtered and tried to start but the second try the WTS didn't come on.
Thanks in advance for all the help.

Check fuse #22 under the hood. It powers the PCM relay and the fuel filter canister heater. If the heater shorted out then fuse #22 will blow and the WTS light won't come on.

Yes you can use 10W 40.
Many use 5W 40 in the winter.

It was -6°F at my house this morning, my truck wasn't plugged in and started with only one cycle of the glow plugs. If you had driven the truck yesterday and got it up to operating temps, it should have started this morning.
Test your glow plugs and glow plug relay to see if they are up to snuff, then go from there. You can run whatever oil you want, so long as it is diesel rated.
