Going from 8 ft to 6 ft bed

For those who have cut their 8 ft bed down to a 6 1/2 footer, how many inches did you slice out of the frame? Did you reuse the last cross member?

I assume you mean that you are using a 6 foot bed and not trying to make a 6 foot bed out of an 8 foot bed...that doesn't work very well. On the frame take 12 inches off the back. I used the extra crossmember for upper shock mounts. When cutting out the 8 inches start just rearward of the bed mounting hole about 1/2 to 1 inch and you might not have to redrill the bed mounting holes....

Be best to swap beds. Long beds (8'+) are also wider and taller and rarer

Why would you want to do that? As stated previously in this 8 1/2 year old thread, the 8 foot box is taller, wider, and longer so a 6 foot bed would fit horribly in place of an 8 foot since it would be shorter, narrower, and not as tall.
