E-350 Twin Turbo Project

E-350 Twin Turbo Project
Hey guys!
Bought a 7.3 idi e350 cargo and I am towing 10 grand loads 3000 miles a week.
Anyway, I NEED more power and was thinking of a custom twin turbo set up. I would go for one of the aftermarket kits but there doesnt look to be much room. If somebody has experience with one of these on a van I would greatly appreciate your opinion.
the idea i have in mind is two turbos placed down low after the manifolds feeding into the intake manifold.
Biggest question is what size turbos for highway driving with ten thousand pounds behind you.
Prefer a used turbo source. Something rugged and easily found in junkyards.
Also, whats a good highway gear for my vehicle? Id like to install a locker and highway gear to get closer to peak torque
I'll be going with head studs and a custom cam from typ4
Thanks!

dont bother trying. just get a good kit from banks or hypertec. bolt on and go. these idi's cant handle enough boost to need a twin turbo. your going to spend a lot of money to be down for a long time. gears depend on your tire size, gears, transmission.
heres an idea for you. take your tire size, your van in 1:1 gear at 60mph

Good luck shoving twins under the doghouse!
You'd be better off taking the stock turbo kit for this thing, especially since they acually still have them.
Even that will make it real tight to work on it!
What year is that van? Anything newer than '89 you'd be good with 4.10 gearing with stock tires since you'd have 4 speed OD transmission. Since you are hauling pretty heavy, plus with the wind load these vans have, you'd wanna keep the engine revving high enough so it doesn't lug or always have to downshift every little hill.
My '87 6.9 camper has 3.55 witch isn't great for towing, but is great since I have a 3 speed transmission, witch keeps the engine around ~2500RPM cruising at 60mph.
If you don't already, make damn well sure you have one heck of a huge tranny oil cooler, even one with it's own little electric fan, I can't imagine how hot that thing must get with the load your towing!

From what I understand the kits are different. The firewalls clearances are different and in different places, down-pipe and up-pipes are totally different on the van, etc. It would take so much extra work so that it wouldn't be worth it getting a F-series turbo used. Its gonna be enough of a hair pulling job putting a turbo made for the van on the van (the engine being in such a difficult place and everything), don't even try to imagine one that isn't made for the van. If you're up to all that work expect the van to be down for a while and be prepared to spend a lot of work/time on it.
If I was you I would call Hypermax, you could probably get a deal with them if you called them up and talked it over. Think of how many people are dying to put a turbo on their pre 94 ford econoline in this economy. Just an idea.
