Gas gauge and tach dont work?

My gas gauge is not working I think it worked before I dropped and cleaned the tank,but now it don't work at all? When I switch to the rear tank it works but don't think its right. Is it a bad sender?

The factory tach do not work, I have seen it work for like five mins one day. so I think its a short. how do I trouble shoot this one?

With the key in ACC or RUN, remove the wire from the sender and ground it;
the gauge should swing fully in one direction (prolly Full) and will swing fully in
the other when the wire is ungrounded. If this test passes, the problem is in the
sending unit.

Gas guage

My gas guage didn"t work when i got the truck i replaced the sender in the tank and it works now but it seems to always be close to E.
I'ed check the connectors for your tach , fuel gauge use electric grease in the connectors and check grounds.

The diesel doesn't have a ignition system, so they have a different system with a sensor that reads the gear teeth on the gear that drives the injection pump. The sensor is right on top of the large rounded housing at the top front of the engine. It will have two wires coming out of the sensor and these sometimes break or wear through. I would check the wires first on this sensor.
