Steering Column Question

This is a darksider question. I have a Mustang II set up on my truck and would like to use the original column and steering wheel and use the original horn button. So far I've figured the original steering shaft would work if I put in a bearing at the bottom of the column for strength and the splined end could be mated to a universal joint. The original horn wire goes down the center of the steering shaft which would be twisted apart in the universal joint. The question is if there is a way to original horn button work??

There is a kit I've seen from some vendor that lets you do exactly what you're talking about, and lets the horn wire come out the side of the column, near the bottom. I've seen guys talk about it here before. I'm sure someone knows what and where it can be found.

Don't forget you also need to build a support clamp and mount for the bottom of the column, where it goes through the floorboard/firewall.

Try this guy. I ordered the kit you are talking about but have not gotten it yet so I can't speak to how well it works. He is a good guy and will talk to you about it and send diagrams if you email him. Good luck.

guess you could install some kind of insulated band around the shaft with brushes like a starter to come out in the cab for your horn...

Hey, thanks for the input. Gobybike, thanks for that contact, I'll check it out. Let me know when you get the kit. P M me or post it. I'm wondering about the quality of the parts, if they fit etc. Thanks again

Blundell Speed

I bought the kit after seeing it in Classic Truck mag; haven't installed as of yet but know you need to have stock column ID to make it fit.
